With love from Uber eats

Have you seen uber’s loading progress bar?

I was staying with couple of my friends at Vashi. I used to not like Zomato because the app had a lot of information and UI elements. The heat map might be too even and quite instense to be looked at of Zomato compared to Uber Eats. One of my roomies, argued with me(he used to represent Zomato, I did Uber eats), Uber eats used to also offer a lot of discounts, specially on Maharashtra lunch home.

In a report Uber and Zomato disclosed, Zomato will be acquiring Uber Eats India at a 9.99% stake in Zomato.
WHATTTTTT???!!
I came home and had to tell my roomie this, myself. My roomie definitely still mocks me about this. But I still love how Uber eats was green and gave me a good feel, Zomato at that time wasn’t following a muted red palatte and was too vibrant to my eyes. We also didn’t have the brightest lights in our room, and apart from that it was monsoon. That made the vibrancy of red more evident and made me shut the app down everytime. But,

This made me learn couple of things,

  1. Deepinder and Dara both are smart men.
  2. Uber decided to shift their focus back on ride hailing operations. Which is their Core competency.
  3. Make friends.
  4. Zomato managed to handle trust of those Uber Eats customers very smoothly. Ah! Too good.

Well! derailed too much. Let us go back to why I loved Uber Eats so much. First things first. Look at their Indeterminte Splash loading screen.

Ain't it so gorgeous, It also had some haptic to it.

I love Zomato a lot now.

Now, years later, I can’t imagine my food delivery experience without Zomato. They’ve refined their UI, toned down the vibrancy, and have learned to balance the information and visuals in a way that’s easier on the eyes. It’s funny how things change—how an app I once avoided became my go-to.

But one thing will always remain: my soft spot for Uber Eats. That green splash screen, the haptics, the smooth ordering experience—it all feels like a distant, fond memory now. I might love Zomato, but Uber Eats will always have a special place in my heart.

Some more beautiful screenshots. Also I think I love that complexity behind their simplicity.

Best,
Ankit.
